Enhancing communities
We believe in enhancing communities and creating long-term social and economic opportunities for everyone
Social mobility: removal of barriers
Social mobility is an important factor in the creation of a vibrant society, and it is a critical factor in the creation of a healthy economy.
Removal of barriers to social mobility is suggestive of equality of opportunity: the idea that while everyone will not have the same outcomes, they should have the same opportunities.
We drive to remove barriers to social mobility through our work practices and the projects that we deliver.
In focus: Steps into Work
Steps into Work provides the opportunity for adults that have complex barriers to employment to develop sustainable workplace experiences by working in a business environment.
Members of the the year long programme complete three unpaid work placements, mainly in office based roles within Transport for London (TfL).
Students also have the opportunity to complete an operational placement as a Customer Services Assistant (CSA) working in a London Underground (LU) station. This also provides them the chance to gain an NVQ Level 2 unit 027 Customer Services in the Railway Industry Award.
Whilst on the programme, participants are students of Barnet and Southgate College studying towards a BTEC Level 1 Work Skills qualification, and not employees of TfL.
