About us:

We are now seeking a skilled Quality Engineer to join our growing team within our Nuclear Business Unit. 

 

About the role:

 

As a Quality Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring effective planning, evaluation, verification, and certification of quality across our nuclear projects. You will proactively identify and implement quality improvements, working closely with internal teams, stakeholders, and suppliers to meet customer and project-specific requirements. Your expertise will be key to minimising the cost and consequence of failure while ensuring compliance with rigorous regulatory and safety standards.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) activities to ensure right-first-time delivery.
  • Develop and implement quality improvement plans aligned with project objectives.
  • Engage with customers and stakeholders to understand and interpret their requirements, including legislative and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with integrated teams to prepare quality and inspection plans, ensuring adherence to lifetime records.
  • Coach and educate teams on QA/QC tools, techniques, and best practices to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Monitor quality performance through audits, key performance indicators, and dashboards.
  • Analyse QA/QC outputs to verify product/service conformity and report to management.
  • Drive continual improvement initiatives, applying structured methodologies to solve complex problems.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9000 and other relevant management system standards.

 

Qualifications and experience:

  • Degree in a relevant discipline OR professional qualification such as CQI Level 5 Diploma.
  • Membership with the CQI or other relevant professional body.
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor trained.
  • Experience working in complex, high-risk environments, ideally within the nuclear industry or Sellafield.
  • Strong knowledge of quality inspection techniques and the ability to manage supplier quality.
  • Familiarity with the PAF (Prevention, Appraisal, Failure) model and cost-of-failure principles.
  • Proven track record of forming effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Valid UK driving license and ability to travel for supply chain visits and between Sellafield Sites and Risley.
  • Able to obtain relevant security clearance.
  • Extensive experience in quality-related roles in nuclear or similarly regulated industries.

 

Desirable skills:

  • Understanding of Sellafield's mission and key business processes.
  • Trained in conducting investigations and working with the supply chain.
  • Operational or project management experience.
