About the project

You’ll join our Energy business unit where are making a difference by helping the UK to achieve net zero carbon emissions and ensuring energy security in the face of an uncertain world. We do this by helping our customers make the most of their existing assets as well as building significant new assets to continually improve the UK’s energy infrastructure. We put our customers first and challenging the status quo by finding the most efficient solutions to the challenges faced.

What will you be doing?

Our Pre-Contract team do everything from identifying, evaluating, pitching and negotiating contracts for new project opportunities to providing input and advice to ensure a project is set up for operational delivery. You will be strategically placed working alongside qualified professionals in your field. Here you won’t just observe your role; you will dive in, deploying your professional skills and unwavering diligence.

We will empower you to undertake real work on live bids including working as a team to write bid responses which can include technical solutions covering every aspect of project delivery. You will help to develop robust delivery programmes and innovative solutions to major engineering challenges. You will work in a team to ensure the offer we put to our customer is attractive and comprehensive. By visiting our active sites, you will learn about current activities and be able to record that in project case studies which become part of our bid offering. You will develop presentations and undertake other activities associated with creating winning offers to potential or existing clients. 

You will meticulously prepare for upcoming activities, ensuring everything aligns seamlessly for a smooth start.  Your involvement won’t stop there.  You will actively contribute to the delivery of projects, becoming an integral part of our success story. As your expertise starts to develop, you will have the opportunity to specialize in planning, design management, estimating or other bid roles. Alternatively, you could springboard into other operational roles within the business.

What qualifications do I require?

An Engineering degree accredited by a chartered body (e.g., ICE, IMechE CIOB, RICS) at a 2:1 or above.

Ability to travel or drive to remote site locations if needed.

Ideally some exposure to a construction/engineering environment.

You will need the ability to:

  • Be geographically mobile – As our projects are UK wide and can be in rural and remote locations you will need to be able to commit to travelling independently to visit sites across England, Scotland and Wales.
  • Have a willingness to learn with a strong interest in professional growth and personal development.
  • Be goal oriented with excellent time management skills and the ability to work towards tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrate well developed communication skills, explaining your ideas clearly to different audiences, actively listening and ensuring other points of view are heard.
  • Enjoy creative problem solving, seeking opportunities in difficult circumstances and adapting to change.
  • Love working as part of a diverse and multi-disciplinary team, operating inclusively and valuing the contribution of others.
